Best Friends Animal Society is a network of organizations and people with a simple philosophy: Kindness to animals builds a better world. Its "No More Homeless Pets" campaign has since the early 1980's helped to reduce the number of dogs and cats killed in shelters every year from 17 million to 5 million.
The goal is to drive that number to zero.
In the fall, Best Friends began working with ND&P to substantially broaden brand awareness and bolster financial support for the continuing No More Homeless Pets campaign. A key component of that has been the development of messaging in and around Manhattan. The primary message: A :15 second animated spot appearing on the ultra-luminous GeoffreyTron board high above ToysRUs Time Square-on a daily basis one of the most heavily trafficked spots in the world.
The spot highlights key information about the plight of sheltered pets left unadopted, and closes with a direct appeal to text a $5 donation directly to Best Friends Society.
And as 2009 turned into 2010 and hundreds of millions of eyes watched the new year unfold, the Best Friends message enjoyed a giant bonus audience when television viewers from across the country and around the world viewed the spot during news coverage of the festivities.
In addition to the GeoffreyTron message, the Best Friends Society logo was chalked onto the sidewalk at key locations throughout the Time Square area-all part of a concerted effort to boost brand awareness and support kindness to animals.

"Like many businesses, some of our clients were initially cautious with their marketing programs this year, but with creativity and hard work we've helped our clients succeed despite the difficult economy. This a testament to the trust our clients have in us as well as the efforts of our dedicated staff."
The agency's five offices added nearly 30 new clients during 2009, including St. Francis Hospital & Health Centers, (Indianapolis), the University System of Georgia, HomeTown Bank (Roanoke, VA) and J&J/Invision (Dalton, GA). ND&P Adds Three New Clients in the Roanoke Region
Roanoke, VA- Neathawk Dubuque & Packett (ND&P) has been quietly growing its Roanoke, VA operations in spite of an economic recession and is announcing today the addition of three new clients which have chosen the agency to help address their marketing challenges. Roanoke Regional Airport Commission, Virginia Western Community College Foundation and Roanoke City Public Schools have selected ND&P to handle their marketing accounts through a competitive bid process. Combined billings for all three accounts will exceed $100,000.
The Roanoke Regional Airport Commission account was awarded to ND&P after a formal review that included the incumbent agency, New City Media of Blacksburg, VA. ND&P won the contract to develop a new website and greater online presences for the Roanoke Regional Airport through a competitive pitch where regional and national agencies were invited to present. ND&P will also be conducting some passenger research for the Airport.
"The Roanoke Regional Airport is an important asset in driving growth for the Roanoke region," notes Todd Foutz, ND&P executive vice president. "More than 80 percent of consumers prefer to plan and book travel online so a dynamic and robust website is vitally important for the airport and the region."
With over 60 scheduled airline flights departing and arriving daily, the Roanoke Regional Airport offers nonstop service to a dozen major cities, as well as frequent connecting service through the hubs of five major airlines.
ND&P was selected by the Virginia Western Community College Foundation to handle marketing consulting and brand development for Virginia Western Community College. The Foundation selected ND&P as the firm through a competitive selection process and identified ND&P as best qualified to help Virginia Western Community College with brand challenges, as well as the Agency having considerable experience in promoting economic development in the region. ND&P will be providing research, marketing plan development and messaging for a brand campaign for the College.
" Virginia Western Community College has great awareness in the region," states Mr. Foutz. "We want to help the college differentiate its offerings to the many constituencies they serve and encourage more people in the region to take advantage of the variety of programs provided by Virginia Western Community College."
The mission of Virginia Western Community College is to provide comprehensive higher education and workforce training programs and services of superior quality that are affordable and accessible and that meet individual, business, and community needs in the Roanoke Valley and surrounding areas.
ND&P also participated in a formal review for the Roanoke City Public Schools account for its Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, which entails providing public relations services including new and social media programs. ND&P was awarded this contract through a proposal that demonstrated in-depth knowledge of CTE as well as an aggressive and innovative public relations plan for this program. ND&P will be targeting parents, students, teachers and guidance counselors through a variety of media relations activities to raise awareness and create a positive image for CTE in Roanoke City Public Schools.
"We have been fortunate," states ND&P CEO Roger Neathawk, "that our agency continues to see growth in a down economy, but we attribute that to a smart and talented group of associates who add real value to our client relationships."

Multiple awards won for television spots for VCU Medical Center
and Virginia Tech
Richmond, VA– Neathawk Dubuque & Packett (ND&P), has announced they
have won numerous awards in this year's 29th Annual Telly Awards. With 13,500 entries
from all 50 states and around the world, this year's competition was one of the
most competitive in the Telly Awards' history. ND&P entered three VCU Medical
Center commercials in the competition and won the highest possible award —
a silver — for all three. Additionally, the agency also won a silver Telly
for the three commercials together as a campaign. The three commercials were produced
for the VCU Medical Center, the Pauley Heart Center, and the VCU Massey Cancer Center.
The campaign, 'What a Difference a Day Makes', illustrates the 'Red Letter' commercials
ND&P produced for the VCU Medical Center. In addition, the agency won a bronze
award for the commercial 'Big Idea', produced for Virginia Tech, which was the first
advertising done by the University after the tragedy in 2007.
"While we've won Telly awards before, this year was particularly remarkable because
we won four top awards for a single campaign," said ND&P Chief Creative Officer
John Griessmayer. "I don't think we've ever done that before, but it shows the level
of work you can produce when you have a talented team, a smart client and a great
product. We're also really proud that our work for Virginia Tech was recognized,
especially since it was done at such a delicate time in the University's history.
We're glad we could play a small part in the healing."
Founded in 1979, the Telly Awards is the premier award honoring outstanding local,
regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest film and video productions,
and groundbreaking web commercials, videos and films. Winners represent the best
work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television
stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world. A prestigious
judging panel of over 40 accomplished industry professionals, each a past Winner
of a Silver Telly, the top honor, judged the competition, upholding the historical
standard of excellence that Telly represents. Judges evaluated entries to recognize
distinction in creative work — entries do not compete against each other —
rather entries are judged against a high standard of merit. Fewer than 10% of entries
are chosen as Winners of a Silver Telly, their highest honor. Other outstanding
work is awarded a Bronze Telly.
ND&P's wins rank them with organizations such as AMC, the American Heart Association,
the Chicago Tribune, Comcast, ESPN and Lockheed Martin.

Book recounts the generous deeds and impact on the community
of Richmond Police Officer Ricky Duling
36 years ago, a local sporting goods store needed someone to play Santa Claus for
a TV commercial, and they ended up hiring Richmond Police Officer Ricky Duling for
the 'plum' role. Now many years later at age 82, the man known as Sergeant Santa
has assembled his considerable memories, photos, stories and experiences into a
new book, entitled, The Good Lord Made Me Look This Way for a Reason.
With his full white beard, bright eyes and rosy cheeks, Officer Duling was the perfect
person for this role. In fact, when they taped the commercial he looked so good
as Santa that the store let him keep the suit. It was then that he had a revelation.
"I wondered what would happen if I put on that Santa suit and gave out candy to children
in low-income areas children who were afraid of the police," said Duling. "So I bought
300 boxes of candy. The next year I bought 500 boxes and the next year I added cookies,
crayons, comic books." He distributed 1,500 gift packages by himself that year and
a Richmond tradition was born – Sgt. Santa.
Today, Sgt. Santa delivers as many as 16,000 packages a year but Duling no longer
has to work alone. Sgt. Santa's elves include literally thousands of volunteers –
Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, civic and service organizations, church groups, and countless
individuals. Even the Richmond City Police Department supports the effort by supplying
two police cruisers to deliver presents to children who otherwise might not have
a Christmas.
The book is being sold for $15 with all profits going to Sgt. Santa of Richmond
Incorporated, a not-for-profit corporation founded by Duling to sustain his charitable
efforts. To purchase a book or to volunteer or make a donation the Sgt. Santa program,
call (804) 358-7281 or send mail to Sgt. Santa Inc., P.O. Box 6665, Richmond, VA,
